Carolyn was born to Paul and Elizabeth Snyder on July 17,1956 in The Dallas, Oregon. Her family moved several times but finally settled in Bellevue, Washington in 1967. After graduating from Sammamish High School, she attended Bellevue College where she earned her Associate of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education. She then continued her studies at the University of Washington, earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History. Her love for working with children prompted her to get her teaching certificate with a focus on elementary education.
While teaching 2nd grade at a private school in Tacoma, Washington Carolyn visited her good friend in Kirkland. Her friend did a little matchmaking and introduced her to the man who would become her husband, Brad Landon. Carolyn and Brad were married June 19th, 1981. In the years to follow they were blessed with two children: Brenda Landon and Brian Landon. Carolyn cherished her family and extended family. She has two sisters and a brother, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, all whose lives she touched deeply.
Carolyn was passionate about family history and enjoyed researching her family’s origins. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed a good mystery or a historical fiction novel. If a challenge arose, she researched the problem with tenacity with the knowledge that she could work through most anything with the right amount of research. Even before the internet made research easy.
Those who knew Carolyn will remember her as a loyal wife, a nurturing mother, a steadfast sister and a supportive friend. It brought her so much joy to see the accomplishments of her own children and the children of her extended family. She tenderly cared for her aging parents especially through their final years.
Her lifelong faith in God was her source of strength as she battled the long-term illness. Even though many of her last months were difficult and painful, she was always interested in the people around her. She would genuinely ask questions and excelled at making a person feel special and celebrated. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who shared in her life. She will be sorely missed by those who were fortunate enough to know and love her. May her memory bring comfort to those lives she touched.
Remembrances in her name may be made to the Worship team at North Coast Family Fellowship 2245 N. Wahanna Road, Seaside, Oregon 97138.
