Charles (Chuck) Martin Shannon, Jr., (88) entered his childhood December 6, 1922 and graduated to rejoin his beloved bride January 11, 2011. Those of us behind include his older sister Maxine Jefferson of Des Moines, Iowa, four of his five children, eight grandsons and their families. He influenced many lives and will be sorely missed by all of us, his family and his friends.
His early years were spent growing up is Des Moines, Iowa where he met his beautiful Nelda. They were married when he was 19 and she was 17 and were together until 2005 when she graduated ahead of him, a wonderful 60+ years.
During the intervening years they traveled life together through World War II, a growing career and many relocations with five children, until they landed in Seattle with Chuck working for the Boeing Company. After retiring from Boeing, he and Nelda traveled through Europe, Asia, and their favorite Hawaiian islands.
A resident of Mercer Island since 1965, he lived independently in the family home until three weeks before his passing. He was a congregant at Covenant Shores and a member of Mercer Island Covenant Church.
Chuck was a man of faith and a man of integrity. His role model for his children and their children was profound and lingering. We will do our best to emulate the life lessons he leaves behind.
Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
