Dennis Arthur O’Neill, of Bellevue, WA, passed away on April 19, 2025, surrounded by his loving daughters and partner. Simply put, he was the best—the best father, the best friend, the best confidant, the best partner. He was the kind of person you could call at any hour, always ready to help, to listen, or to lift your spirits. Everyone who knew him feels lucky to have had him in their lives.
Dennis was born on October 20, 1944, in Ellensburg, Washington, to Flora Jean (Snyder) O’Neill and Arthur Gerard O’Neill. He spent his early years in Ellensburg before attending Marquette High School in Yakima. After a year at Gonzaga University, Dennis joined the Jesuit order, where he deepened his studies and his commitment to helping others. He ultimately earned both a B.A. and an M.A. in Counseling from Gonzaga.
His professional life reflected his deep care for people. After leaving the Jesuits, Dennis began as a social worker and went on to become a drug and alcohol counselor at Boeing. While at Boeing, he played a key role in creating their Employee Assistance Program, continuing his lifelong dedication to support and healing.
Dennis was preceded in death by his beloved wife Carol and his siblings Jim, Phil, and Sharon. He is survived by his daughters, Katie and Carley; his partner, Sherry; his cherished grandchildren; and many friends and loved ones whose lives he touched.
A celebration of Dennis’s life will be held on June 6, 2025 at 10:30 am at the Chapel of St. Ignatius, 901 12th Ave, Seattle. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the Gonzaga University Scholarship Fund.
