Lifetime Redmond resident, Dorothy Jean Brashears, passed peacefully May 3rd in her own home surrounded by family. She was born on December 27th, 1919 in Kirkland, Washington to Oscar and Bessie (Mitchell) Weiss early Redmond pioneers. Dorothy made Redmond her home for 96 years. She attended the Avondale Schoolhouse and then later graduated from Redmond High School in 1937. After attending a business college she worked as a bookkeeper at a Redmond bank and then as a homemaker. In 2006 she was preceded in death by Earl W. Brashears, her husband of 65 years.
Dorothy is survived by daughters Bonnie Halbert (Danver), Bobbie Jo Connors (Rick) and son, Brian. She lovingly left behind five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
With Earl she enjoyed travels throughout the U.S. and Canada visiting many National Parks as well as family and friends. Dorothy enjoyed piano playing, crossword puzzles, card games, knitting and crocheting. She was an excellent baker and an avid gardener throughout her life. Even at the age of 96 family and friends were treated to her delicious meals, baked goods and tours of her self designed, beautifully maintained gardens.
After her husband’s death Dorothy enjoyed many trips with her daughters to visit family, friends and exquisite gardens all around Washington State. She was also one heck of a backseat driver.
Dorothy was truly the gem of the family. She would give the shirt off her back if one was cold or the food off her plate if one were still hungry. Dorothy was loved by all and her compassion, knowledge and humor will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Evergreen Hospice. Please contact the family for information about Dorothy’s celebration of life.
