

Edwin Hiram Hearing, 92, of Bellevue, WA died Saturday, August 4 after waging a difficult but brief battle with esophageal cancer. He lived life fully and put his family above all else to the very end.Ed was born to John and Leona Hearing, December 1, 1921, in Post Falls, ID. In 1928 the family moved to Port Townsend, WA, and in 1940 Ed graduated from Port Townsend High School where he was involved in football and Sea Scouts. From 1942 to 1945 he served in the Seabee division of the US Navy. He received a BA in Transportation from the University of Washington in 1949. He was a Sigma Chi, a National Champion and All American Oarsman on the UW Varsity Crew Team and was later inducted into the Husky Hall of Fame.
While attending UW, Ed met and, in 1949, married Belva Maxine Johnson of Pacific Beach, WA. They were the featured couple on an episode of The Bride & Groom Radio show in Los Angeles, CA. From their first Seattle home in Wedgwood, they moved to Bellevue where they built the lakefront home they have lived in together since 1961.Ed was a Regional Sales Manager for Challenge Cook Bros., a construction equipment company, and he frequently traveled throughout his western region which included Hawaii and Alaska. He loved boating and fishing. Many family summer vacations were spent cruising the San Juan Islands aboard his Chris Craft, The Playmate. Ed was a member of the Mormon Church. He was an avid Husky fan. Ed is survived by his wife, Maxine, his sister Marcella Younce, of Port Townsend, his daughters Hollis Bean and Tracy Hearing Michigami, and Grandson Jesse Edwin Bean of Bellevue. He is also survived by his niece Jill Buhler of Port Townsend, and nephews Dan Johnson of Burien, David Johnson of Hoquiam, Randy Johnson of Whitefish, MT and Kevin Johnson of Frenchtown, MT.Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 17th at Tahoma National Cemetery followed by a celebration of life at the Bellevue LDS Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to University of Washington Athletics; Husky Crew Fund.
