On the morning of Veterans Day, this proud veteran of the U.S. Navy unexpectedly set sail on his final journey at the age of 91. Born in Seattle and graduated from Queen Anne High School, Jim began a varied career after the Navy. He worked both as a baker and as a Battalion Chief with King County Fire District 25.
He moved to Bellevue after his marriage to his wife Dolly. Jim was a devoted husband and father and was very proud of their son, Bill. After the passing of Dolly in 2001 he met and married Joyce Evetts, enjoying 16 loving years together with lots of dancing. Jim also enjoyed birding, volunteering with the Audubon Society and the VFW, crosswords, cribbage, and baking delicious treats. He loved the times he shared with his son Bill, especially at many Husky games. He also loved being Grandpa to Joyce’s granddaughters Tina and Krista, who gave him the name JimJim when they were young. He spent his final years living independently at The Creekside in Woodinville and made friends there. It was a blessing to his family that he was so happy in his final years.
Jim is pre-deceased by his son Bill and wife Joyce. He is survived by his sister Nadine Speakes, stepdaughters Pam Watson (Scott), Jana Burnley (Rick), granddaughters Christina Lehman and Krista Somera-Jiminez and their spouses Jeremy and Ricardo, great-granddaughters Joelle and Camila and extended family.
We love you JimJim, and hope you’re having a dance with Nanny.
