I regret to say that word of Jim's passing has only just reached me. May I express to his family and many friends the sincere condolences of the Officers and members of the Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati.
It was a particular pleasure working with him on his application to represent Capt. Nahum Ward, son of General Artemus Ward first Commander of the Continental Army.
I am very sorry that I will not be speaking with him any more.

I haven't seen Jim in years but I've thought of him often.  He was my best friend through junior high and high school.  We made great memories that have lasted to this day.  I remember Jim, Bill, and Keith like they were my brothers.  Jim and I used to go fishing off the dock at Waverly Park. Sometimes we'd lay on  the roof of the barn at my place and just talk for hours.

Even though we've been apart for a long time, I feel a hole in my heart at his passing.


Corrections to my earlier post.   Jim Wilbur always sought to better himself.

Jim was a member of Phi Beta Kappa (5/64) at Lake Washington Senior High school, Kirkland, WA, where he was the class Valedictorian.
Jim received a BA in Mathematics at Pomona College (6/67).

Jim received a Certificate from the US Army Chaplains School (3/69).
He received a Letter of Appreciation from the US Army (11/70);

Jim received a MS in Computer Science at Washington State University (2/78).
Jim was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma (5/83), where he earned an MBA (6/83).

Jim became a Mayflower Descendant (1/87).
Jim joined the Massachusetts Society of Cincinnati (2/12).

On a side note:  He always wanted to be the older brother.  After reviewing all of his accomplishments, and considering what his life was about, I do believe he showed me what being the older brother means.
  


My younger brother, James Ronald Wilbur, was thirteen months younger than I.  Jim was extremely intelligent, serious minded, & was Lake Washington High School's 1964 valedictorian; he lived a very honorable life, attending multiple colleges and obtaining multiple degrees:  Mathematics from Pomona, CA; Sociology from U of Michigan; BS in Computer Science from Washington State University;  and finally, an MS in Computer Science from Seattle University.   He worked at Boeing, as did his dad and two brothers at the same time.

Additionally, he was a Vietnam era veteran, serving at Walter Reed Army Hospital, as a Chaplain’s Assistant; He was fortunate enough to have married two women in his life; the first (Cindy) died of kidney failure, after they adopted Jeffrey, for which they were so proud; the second we called "Saint Elizabeth", because she helped him through his physical and medical struggles till the end.  While living with Liz, he obtained his CFP License and went on to become an Enrolled Agent to support their family business.  Jim started doing Keith’s Income Taxes, & got both Keith & myself interested in stock  investing. 

Fond memories:  The 1954 Train trip; the drive down the pacific coast in 1958;  the occasional tufts, including pushing me through a wall at Aunt Trudi’s;   another brawl at home, where we broke a floor lamp, before our youngest brother Keith came out and broke up the skirmish. 

In his later years, because of its historical meaning, and the years he spent in the U.S. Army. Jim was extremely proud to have become a member of the Cincinnati Society, whose members share a personal connection to the officers in the Continental and French service who secured the independence of the United States.  
 
We are extremely saddened to have lost him, and send our condolences to his family.

I always enjoyed listening to Uncle Jim's stories about  the Cincinnati  and  family tree.  He always spoiled our kids and dog, Uncle Jim will be greatly missed by all.

Many years ago my husband Dale and I went to a picnic to say farewell to James’s  family as they prepared to move so far away from Illinois to Washington state.  He and his brothers were little boys then and probably don’t remember the occasion.  
Uncle Elmer was my father-in-laws (Harold ) older brother.
