Marvin Lee McConnell, aged 85, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2025, at UW Medical Hospital in Seattle, Washington, surrounded by his loving wife, Hue McConnell, and family. He was born on December 4, 1939, in Tacoma, Washington.
Marvin was an accomplished individual who graduated from Cornell University with a bachelor’s degree in business management. He proudly served as a Lieutenant in the Navy, with deployments in Iceland and Vietnam. In 1965, on his third day in Saigon, Vietnam, he reported his duty to his Commander. It was there he met Hue, his Commander’s secretary, who became the love of his life. They married on January 4, 1969, and shared many wonderful years together, residing in Redmond and Bellevue before moving to their home in Kirkland, where they've lived for 38 years.
Marvin owned the art gallery, The Vault, in Pioneer Square from 1973-1990. He loved art and enjoyed engaging with clients, sometimes so much that he forgot to close the sales. From 1990-1992, Marvin sold the art gallery and joined his wife in traveling and doing jewelry business with the Army and Airforce Exchange Service, primarily in the US and Germany. In 1994, Marvin and Hue opened a jewelry and art gallery named Alaskan Heritage in Ketchikan, Alaska. They operated this business during the summer for 11 years, feeling blessed and grateful to travel the world after their retirement.
Marvin is survived by his devoted wife, Hue McConnell, and his sister, Lynette Bartel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert N. and Mary Ann McConnell, and his two brothers, Dr. Robert McConnell and Dr. David McConnell.
Marvin was a man of many passions and interests. He was known for his generosity and warm smile that touched the lives of everyone he met. He loved storytelling and sharing knowledge with others. Fishing was one of his greatest joys, and he found solace in woodworking when he wasn't traveling. Marvin had an extensive bucket list of places he longed to visit, and he cherished reading during moments of relaxation. Hunting was another activity he enjoyed, especially when he had a companion to join him. Above all, Marvin had a deep and abiding faith in God, which guided him throughout his life.
Marvin's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His legacy of kindness and the joy he brought to others will never be forgotten.
