Ove was born in Sogndal, Norway on May 22, 1921. He left Norway in 1929 with his mother and brother Leif, emigrating to America. They joined his father, who had emigrated to Chicago earlier. Ove graduated from Lane Technical High School in 1940.
Ove worked at an engineering firm until he received his draft notice in 1944, and was sent to the Royal Norwegian Air Force (RNAF) training base in Canada for combat flight training. He was later transferred to England to continue his training, until the war ended in 1945.
Ove returned to Chicago after the war and married Vera Iversen in 1951. They visited Seattle area as a young couple and found that the Western Washington natural beauty reminded them of Norway. He knew this was the place he wanted to raise a family, so he and Vera moved to Bellevue, WA, residing in the Lake Hills area. His extended family soon followed them out west.
Ove worked for the Boeing Company as an aerospace engineer on many special projects. In the latter part of his career he spent a great deal of time in Cape Canaveral, FL working on the space shuttle program, until his retirement in 1986.
He loved the outdoors, and was an avid skier, golfer, and hiker. He was an avid watercolorist and wood worker, producing many beautiful pieces, which he shared with friends and family.
Ove and Vera developed many lifelong friends in Bellevue, which they cherished.
Ove is survived by his wife Vera, and the Orwoll, Latendresse, Pullman, and Woodhouse families as well as many relatives in Norway.
Ove will be laid to rest at a private event in Bellevue, WA. In lieu of cards or flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer’s/Dementia research foundations of your choice.
