Patricia Claire Scott Schuppenhauer was born on August 6, 1933, in Seattle, Washington, to Jesse Lowder Scott and Anna Charlotte Lundberg. She was the fifth of seven children and grew up surrounded by the lively energy of a large family. During her school years, she was an active member of the Rainbow Girls and proudly served as Worthy Advisor in 1950. Pat graduated from Bothell High School in 1951.
In 1953, she married her soulmate, Harry Schuppenhauer, beginning a lifelong partnership built on love and devotion.
Many in the community fondly remember Pat as the Finn Hill Junior High lunchroom lady, where she brought warmth and kindness to generations of students. In 1974, she boldly reinvented herself by returning to school at the University of Washington. She went on to build a meaningful career as a medical secretary and transcriptionist in nephrology, sports medicine, and orthopedics at the University of Washington, as well as at Children’s Hospital and the Friday Harbor Clinic.
Pat treasured her years as a “snowbird” in Mesa, Arizona. There, she became deeply involved in the Mesa Regal community — singing with the Regalairs Singing Group, participating in the church choir, and serving as head of the Mesa Regal Quilters. An avid and gifted quilter, she generously donated handmade baby blankets for several years to new mothers at the Whidbey Island Naval Base, stitching love into every piece she created.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harry, and her son, Timothy.
Pat is survived by her son Dale and his wife Heidi; her daughter-in-law Jobyna Schuppenhauer; and her son Peter and his husband Michael Reading. She leaves behind cherished grandchildren Holly and Randy Smith, Frances Schuppenhauer and Quinn Holmberg-Bertino, and Thomas Schuppenhauer; step-grandchildren Aaron Smith and Ben Smith; and great-grandchildren Alaina, Alumina, and Mackenzie. She is also survived by her sisters Annabelle Zylstra and Carol “Susan” Thatcher, along with many nieces and nephews, too numerous to count.
Pat will be remembered for her warmth, resilience, creativity, and the love she so freely gave to her family and community. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched and the beautiful quilts — and memories — she leaves behind.
