Patti Walker (née Low, Low Fay Ping) was an elephant collector, a thoughtful friend and sister, an excellent investor, a caring spouse, and a loving mother. Trying to do her justice in one written article is like trying to tie a ribbon around the wind, but we must try.
Born near Guangzhou, China in 1949, she then lived in Hong Kong until moving to Seattle with the Low family in 1959. She lived on Beacon Hill throughout her adolescence with her mother, father, sister, and brother. She worked hard, saved well, and bought her own house in 1979. In 1981, she met the love of her life, Alan Walker, in a movie club at the University of Washington. Patti, ever the daring young ingénue, asked Alan if he would like a stick of gum, and the rest was, indeed, history. They were married on February 23, 1983 in an intimate ceremony at the Coco Palms Resort in Kauai. It was perfect.
In 1985, Patti and Alan welcomed their first child, Jeffrey Walker, soon followed by a younger brother, Bradford Walker, in 1987. Their family thrived, and the boys grew into fine young men. After years working as a computer operator for Alaska Distributors, Patti was able to retire in 2008. With her newfound free time, she loved to go to the casino with her two siblings, Loni and Lester. Her firstborn was married in June 2010, and soon thereafter the Walker family welcomed two grandchildren: Mason and Kaili. In 2021, Bradford married as well, and Patti celebrated with the entire family.
Patti was an excellent listener, and could be counted on to always deliver her sons and grandchildren their favorite foods in bulk. She was warm and generous, and never passed up an opportunity to support her children. She gave sage advice. She was quick to dole out red envelopes to every child, and grandchild, each Lunar New Year. She was small in stature, but mighty in presence. She could be sassy, when needed, with those closest to her. If you were lucky, you got to know her well enough to recognize the mischievous glint that was almost always in her eye.
Patti passed away on November 8th, after a cozy, peaceful evening at home with Alan. She is survived by her husband, sons, siblings, and grandchildren. They miss her dearly already.
