Raquel was the heart of our home and lives. She devoted her life to raising and lifting up her entire family, friends, and community. She fulfilled that with grace. She was the best mother, not only to her son, but to her sisters, nieces and nephews – treating them all as if they were her very own.
She was compassionate and selfless, always giving to others no matter the circumstance. That generosity most notably came in the form of her love for cooking. Regardless of occasion or how she was feeling – birthday parties, anniversaries, holidays, or even just daily breakfast, lunches, and dinners – she would spend countless hours researching, testing out, and whipping up the most delicious dishes. She made it a point to ensure that everyone was well fed and that there were plenty of leftovers remaining to last the week.
Those who knew Raquel will remember her immense faith and love for God. No matter the church, you’d find her singing her heart out during praise and worship sections of the service. And, with her innate talent for picking up and singing harmony, it would make entire congregations sound better. During prayer, she would constantly be putting others at the forefront, wishing for the best in their health, growth, and well-being. That faith continued to extend outside of services where her love for God was clear in the way she lived and interacted with others.
It is an understatement to say that Raquel loved people; her personality kept those around her orbit grounded and her infectious laughter delivered such joy. She enjoyed cheering others’ on with their successes or helping lend an ear in times of need. She loved spending time with people no matter the activity whether it was visiting a farm to pick berries, going out on a road trip to Canada or Oregon for shopping, or even just simply coming over to talk over some food or card games. Raquel’s love attracted so many from all over the world, and she embraced every part of it. To know her was to know love itself and she will be greatly missed.
Besides her son, DJ, Raquel’s memory will forever be cherished by her parents, Wilfredo and Asuncion, her sisters Ruth, Rhoda, Ritchie, and Jane, her nieces, Jasmin, Jazlyn, Colette, Makayla, and Riley, her nephews, Zachary, Joshua, Josiah, Gavin, and Eugene, her friends, and many colleagues.
A funeral service will be held at Sunset Hills Memorial Park & Funeral Home in Bellevue, WA on Monday, March 3rd from 11am to 3pm.
Your Hug Meant the World
Nobody else held me so tight
Or made me feel so right
No one's eyes shined so bright with love
As my mom, who is now high above.
