Born May 29 1931 in La Grange GA to Fred and Ruth Boykin, Virginia and her three older siblings Mabel, William, and Dorothy were all raised by Fred and step-mother Helen (Miss Girlie).
Virginia was a beautiful young woman with lots of goals, and a strong faith in herself and our Lord.
After graduating Valedictorian top of her class from Grady Nursing School in 1953, she married her first love William A. Bell. He was a Morehouse graduate and Air Force man with a bright future. After relocating to Ann Arbor MI, Virginia and William brought into the world two lovely daughters; Rhonda Lynne in 1959 and Cynthia Marie in 1963.
Virginia loved being a mother, wife and RN, and after the family moved to Washington state in 1967, she returned to school and became an ARNP specializing in Women's Health Care. She was extremely proud of her work, and she touched countless lives with her compassion and encouragement.
How can one put down on paper Virginia's whole life; all the amazing and wonderful things she selflessly did for others, the places she travelled, the lives she enhanced with her joyful spirit?
Ginny loved her family and friends, her home and beautiful garden, but she also understood the enormity God's world and she had a desire to see the wonders of His creation.
After her husband passed too young in 1977, Virginia travelled to Africa, China, Japan, the Caribbean, South and Central America and Greece, sharing her effervescent smile with everyone she met!
Always an intriguing woman, she met a tall handsome man named Tommie Lamb, who became her life partner for 30+ years.
After trying to retire several times, Virginia continued to work part-time until her illness in 2004. And even then she never stopped helping those around her, continually sharing her laughter and light!
Right up until the end, Virginia carried her self with dignity and grace... and when she went to be with the Lord she was surrounded by loved ones. We all cherish our memories of her, forever.
"Momma, we will always love you,
a bushel and a peck!"
