Born in Germany during the years surrounding the Second World War, Monika Martha Hennecke grew up in a world forever changed by war, hardship, rebuilding, and resilience. As a young girl, she dreamed of becoming a hairdresser in Berlin and living with her beloved Aunt Martha, carrying with her throughout life the elegance, discipline, and quiet strength of the old world she never truly left behind.
Through her marriage and her connection to the United States Army in Germany, Monika eventually came to America, beginning a new life first in Texas and later in Arkansas. Together with her husband, Alton “Al” Miles, she built a life through sacrifice, determination, and faith during years when success was earned one careful step at a time.
Those who knew Monika understood immediately that she carried herself with grace, intelligence, and dignity. She loved beauty, conversation, laughter, animals, family stories, old traditions, and the comforts of home. She possessed both European refinement and the hard-earned practicality of a woman who had survived difficult times and built a meaningful life.
Monika was preceded in death by many beloved family members from both Germany and America, including her husband Al, whose life and career journey she shared from humble beginnings to extraordinary success.
She leaves behind those who loved her deeply, including close family and lifelong friends who became family.
