Born August 30, 1942 in Oklahoma City, Carolyn Florence (Slaton) Kinney went to her Heavenly home on the morning of May 24, 2023 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Erma Juanita (Palmer) and Charles Wesley “C. W.” Slaton, and siblings Barbara Murray, Anna Lee Whitaker, and Charles Slaton. She is survived by her husband Kenneth Wayne Kinney; son Christopher Bruce Campbell and wife Gini; stepdaughter Anita Winn-Szilagyi and husband Don; stepson Justin Kinney; grandchildren Corbin Campbell and wife Kaleigh, Branden Winn, Madison Winn, Nathan Winn, Zachary Winn, Chrysta Kinney, Emily Kinney, and Lyndsie Kinney; great-grandson Harrison Campbell; nephews David Green and Larry Whitaker, Jr.; niece Kelley Hall, and multiple great-nephews and great-nieces.
Carolyn loved dancing; she and Wayne spent many Friday nights at the American Legion on the dance floor and listening to her favorite country music. Following retirement, the couple purchased a motor home and traveled the U.S. with pups Molly and Gracie. Carolyn was a longtime fan of basketball, and was thrilled when Oklahoma City landed their own professional team. She enjoyed attending the activities of her grandchildren, cheering them on from the stands, and spending time with family.
A devoted Christian, the family finds peace in knowing Carolyn is healed and in the arms of her Lord and Savior. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her name to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, 825 N. E. 13th, Oklahoma City, OK 73104 or omrf.org, to support the research and ultimate cure for Alzheimer’s.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers at Jasmine Estates of Edmond Memory Care, they were exceptional. A memorial service will be held at Bill Merritt Funeral Home, 6201 Northwest 39th Expressway in Bethany, on Wednesday, May 31st at 2:00 p.m.
