Geraldine ”Gerry” Elizabeth (Raymer) Wade, was born in Oklahoma City on January 13, 1929. She departed this life on February 20, 2023 to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Gerry was an educator and received her Master’s degree at O.U. She taught English and French at Kerr Jr High School and subsequently Midwest City High School. She then became a guidance counselor at Carl Albert Junior and Senior High School (1965-1988). During semi-retirement she taught at Oscar Rose Junior College. Gerry was a long time member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and sang alto for the Canterbury Choral Society. She was a polio survivor from age 16 months and learned to walk again following multiple surgeries. Fiercely independent, she taught her sons to deal with adversity by her mantra, “It came to pass – not to stay”. Her smile and happy disposition will be missed. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Anna Blair and Virginia Ruth Mullikin; and nephew, Wesley Blair. She is survived by her oldest son, Dr. Christopher Kerns and wife Gail of Oklahoma City; younger son, Stephen M. Kerns of Enid; three grandchildren, Kevin Kerns (wife Jessica), Allison Skibicki, and Jaclyn Owens (husband Garrett); nephews, Leslie Blair (wife Nattanan “Jum”), Harry “Nick” Nichols (wife Diane); and nieces, Ramona Noakes (husband Vernon) and Jackie Miller (husband Lowell)
Graveside services will be 2pm Thursday, February 23, 2023 at Memorial Park Cemetery.
