

Karen Alice Macom was born on June 5, 1941; the daughter of the late Robert and Mildred Macom. She was the middle child of five children and was raised in Carnegie, Oklahoma. Karen married the love of her life, Wayne Powell on June 6, 1958. They were blessed with three children Darla, Teresa and Mark. She has lived in Bethany, Oklahoma for the last 47 years.
Her home was open to everyone and there was always room for one more at the supper table. She loved her family and friends and surrounded herself by them. She was the "cool" Mom among mom's. She loved to do crafts, paint, sew, quilt, bead and scrapbook. She made beautiful Christmas ornaments, quilts and paintings. She also loved her OU Sooners, Dallas Cowboys and Thunder Teams. Karen decided to go back to school and become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She enjoyed working at nursing homes and especially with the Alzheimer's patients. She also enjoyed being a member of the Benevolent and Patriotic Order of Doe's. She loved stuffing plastic Easter eggs for the children at Easter and doing fund raisers for "Dogs for the Deaf".
Karen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Darla and Danny Temple of Warr Acres, OK; daughter, Teresa Gold of Bethany, OK; son, Mark Powell of Anchorage, AK; six grandchildren Jeromy Gold of Piedmont, OK; Sara Schmidt of Bethany, OK; Brian Temple of Yuma, AZ; Joshua Powell, Braden Powell and Blake Powell of Columbia Falls, MT; one great grandson, Brendyn Temple of Yuma, AZ; brother, Joseph Macom of Ninnekah, OK; and many other family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Wayne; brothers, Clintford and Bobby and sister, Myrt. Visitation will be Monday, November 11, 2013 from 12-8 pm. Service is Tuesday, November 12, 2013, 2 pm at Bill Merritt Funeral Home in Bethany, OK. No graveside services.
