Mayrea Evelyn (Tanner) Washa, 95, went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 7, 2012. She was born on March 26, 1917 in Osborne, KS. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mayrea Carlin Tanner, when she was only 13 days old; her mom Mary Caruthers Tanner; her dad Albert Eugene Tanner; her beloved husband of 61 years, M. Ed Washa; and her sister-in-law Doris Holman, whom she loved as a sister. As a child, she lived with various, different relatives on farms around Kansas and Colorado, laboring with farm chores and loving to ride horses. When her dad re-married and the family reunited, they settled in Cushing, OK. After completing business school and working at Douglas aircraft plant, she married Ed Washa in 1946 and raised 4 children in Oklahoma City. Mayrea was a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church for 60 years where she accepted Christ and served in many roles, including church music secretary. She also made sure that her children were in church every time the doors were opened. Mayrea was full of Christian love and always spread that love to most everyone she encountered, stranger or not. Her greatest gift was the gift of prayer, as evidenced by her worn and tattered Prayer List Book. Mayrea would greet each morning by announcing to her family and the world, “This is the day that the Lord hath made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” One of her favorite Bible verses was “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” She is survived by her children, Daniel Washa of Corpus Christi, TX; Bonnie and husband Richard Stokes of Oklahoma City; Toni and husband Dee Schoemann of Tulsa; and Dale and wife Susan Washa of Oklahoma City; 8 grandchildren including Jason and wife Sara Washa, Chris Washa, Shelley and husband John Jennings, Karla Stokes, Lindsey and husband Tony Tricinella, Scott and wife Susan Washa, Emily and husband Luke Wendel, Brian and wife Mandy Washa, 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will held 10 Am Saturday August 11, 2012 at Bill Merritt Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday 4-8 pm. Memorial Contributions may be made in honor of Mayrea to Trinity International Baptist Church 1329 NW 23 St, Okc, OK 73106.
