Robert Allen Earl, age 89, died of cancer at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City on Tuesday, May 20, 2014. Born April 18, 1925, in New Milford, Connecticut as one of 14 children, Robert lived primarily in Mexico before retiring to his home in Oklahoma. He was married to Katherine Sheffler, his lifelong love on August 11, 1951. Robert spent his life in service to Christ, leading many thousands to His Kingdom through his work and example. Working with Wycliffe Bible Translators, Robert translated the New Testament and Psalms into four different Zapotec languages and collaborated on Bible translations with many other missionary translators. Driven by a childlike curiosity and joy of discovery, Robert enjoyed geology, astronomy, botany, meteorology and archaeology and learned to speak, read and write many languages. Survivors include Katherine, his wife of 62 years, children Teri, Bob and Margene, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, May 24, at Our Lord’s Community Church, located at 11400 North Portland Road, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Arrangements under the direction of Bill Merritt Funeral Service, Bethany, OK.
