

Ruth Elna Nieman, 91, of Blanchard, Oklahoma died April 19th at home with loved ones. She passed away from congestive heart failure.
Ruth was born on July 27, 1933, to Warren and LaDell Williams in Colorado City, Texas. She graduated from Idalou High School in 1950 and was crowned Miss Idalou that same year.
She married Lon Cox in 1950 and they had one daughter, Lonna Jean Cox.
Ruth worked for South Plains Telephone Co-op in Lubbock, Texas for 12 years. She was an active church member who sang in the choir, enjoyed sewing, and was a member of the Eastern Star.
In 1972, Ruth married James Nieman and moved to Oklahoma City. She was a homemaker and continued to be active in church and Women’s Bible Studies. She played the piano and taught many grandchildren how to play as well. Jim and Ruth spent their summers in Lake City, Colorado where she enjoyed fishing and spending time with friends and family. Ruth often cared for her many grandchildren and later in life her mother LaDell. She went to live with her daughter Lonna in November 2023.
Ruth is survived by her daughter Lonna Jackson, step-children Gary Nieman, Inette Kasparek, Carla Thornton, grandchildren Angel, Scot, Nikki, Chris, Tracie, Lori, Kyra, Roy Jr., Becca, Robin, James, Katherine, Marjorie, many great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Warren and LaDell, husband James Nieman, siblings Mary McGhee and David Franklin, son-in-law Roy “Dee” Jackson, and grandson Shawn Thomas Jackson.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 24th from 5-7pm at Bill Merritt Funeral Home located at 6201 Northwest 39th Expressway in Bethany.
Funeral services will be Friday, April 25th at 2pm at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Home located at 6600 Broadway Extension in Oklahoma City with John DeVere officiating.
Interment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park in Oklahoma City.
