

James Michael Byrnes, of Bethpage, New York, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026. He was born on February 18, 1968, in Flushing, New York, and lived a life filled with laughter, love, and deep connections to family and friends.
James was the beloved son of William Michael Byrnes and the late Catherine A. Byrnes, whom he loved dearly. He was a devoted and loving brother to Robert Byrnes (Elizabeth Cosgrove), William Byrnes (Tara), and Mary Ehrlinger (Dennis). James was a proud and cherished uncle to Jessica, Jonathan, Andrew, Deirdre, Danielle, Kyra, James, and Kathryn, and adored great uncle of Ryan and Carter, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
James had a joyful spirit and a genuine love for life. He was an avid fisherman who found peace by the water, and he loved playing chess and cards, always enjoying the camaraderie that came with a good game. In his younger years, he proudly played football as an Eagle for the Bethpage school team, and his passion for sports stayed with him throughout his life as a loyal and enthusiastic fan. He also found simple happiness in watching classic game shows, something that always brought a smile to his face.
Known for his outgoing personality, James had a rare gift for making people feel welcome and at ease. He touched countless lives with his kindness, humor, and warmth. His smile lit up a room, his laughter was contagious, and his playful jokes brought joy to everyone around him. James had a way of making ordinary moments special, and his presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Visitation will be held for family and friends to gather and share memories on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 5:00–9:00 PM, and
Sunday, February 8, 2026, from 2:00–4:00 PM and 7:00–9:00 PM, at Arthur F. White Funeral Home, 234 Broadway, Bethpage, NY 11714.
A Funeral Mass celebrating James’s life will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 10:00 AM, at St. Martin of Tours Church, Bethpage, New York. In lieu of flowers donation may be made in Jame's memory to the Brain Injury Association of New York https://bianys.org/donate/
