

Ann Chapman Cox of Birmingham, AL passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at the age of 86. Ann was born on December 02, 1935, in Troy, Alabama to Lucie and Corley Chapman. She grew up in Troy, graduated from Troy High School and was a member of the First Baptist Church. In 1953, she attended Troy State Teacher's College. In 1954, she was Pike County "Maid of Cotton". Ann transferred to the University of Alabama in 1955 where she was a member and officer of Kappa Delta Sorority. She graduated with a BS in Home Economics in 1957 and moved to Birmingham. After moving to Birmingham, she became a member of her beloved Sewing Club, the Junior League of Birmingham where she enjoyed singing with the Choral Group, the Mountain Brook Kappa Delta Alumnae Association, Alabama National Alumnae Association, Canterbury Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, Silhouettes and Harlequins dance clubs, and Canterbury United Methodist Church. She was an avid Alabama football fan and always dressed in crimson, elephants and houndstooth for gameday. Ann loved reading, traveling, cooking and spending time with her family. By far, Ann's greatest love, attention and devotion was for her family, who affectionately called her “Honey”. She will be greatly missed for all of her loving interest in every detail of their lives. Ann was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Corley “Brother” Chapman; and her husband of 36 years, James Leonard Cox. She is survived by her children Kimberly Bean (Nelson), Chapman Lee, Meagher Whigham (Wagon), Lucie Haynes (Brad), Helen Hyde (Cabot); grandchildren Elizabeth Bean Ryan (Will), Nelson Bean (Ali), Chapman Bean (Marguerite), Bradley Haynes, Ann Chapman Haynes, Corley Haynes, McKee Haynes, Carter Hyde, Cabot Hyde, Mary Lee Hyde, Allie Whigham, Ann Whigham and Robert Whigham; and step-daughter, Bet Bet Cox. The family would like to thank Valerie Richards, her dear friend and companion; and Kisha Sheperd, Dorothy Holmes, Judy Summerford and Grace Ocholla of Home Instead for their tender care in this past year. A celebration of Ann’s life will be held at Canterbury United Methodist Church on Monday, October 10th at 11:00 a.m. with visitation in the parlor at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Mulherin Home, 2496 Halls Mill Road, Mobile, AL 36606; Canterbury United Methodist Church, 350 Overbrook Road, Birmingham, AL 35213; or to a charity of your choice.
