Dave had many nicknames, but his favorite title was Husband, son, brother, Uncle, Nephew, cousin and friend. He adored his family and they him. Even if you were a friend- you were his family!
Dave’s light blessed the world when he was born to his parents David E. Knall, Sr and Donna Bertella Knall on 04/24/1974 in Birmingham, AL
Dave attended St. Francis Xavier and graduated from John Caroll Catholic High School in 1992, such an accomplishment to graduate with his class, as he had 2 major back surgeries his senior year of high school.
He then went on to his 25 year career as a Chef. His passion for cooking started as a young boy sitting on the counter watching his Paw-Paw (Johnnie P. Bertella) make meatballs for their family dinners.
Some of the local restaurants Dave worked at were The Open Door Cafe, Sol’s, and Daniel George (the original DG)
He then moved to New Orleans and worked at The High Hat Cafe where he met some of his NOLA family.
Dave was so fortunate to work with his brother, Kyle and together they worked at Kenton’s in New Orleans and then later followed Kyle to work at Maysville in New York.
Dave was music, music was Dave.
He was never hesitant to introduce his music to anyone he met and yes, his music was better than yours.
His favorite artists were the Meters, Dr. John, Professor Long Hair, George Porter, Jr, who attended his 40th Birthday Dinner and Galactic.
Locally his favorite band was the Meteorites.
Dave attended countless concerts and shows with both his sister, brother and friends.
His favorite music event was Jazz Fest in New Orleans and he’d count down the days leading up to the 2 weekend event! He had been to 24 festivals.
When Dave wasn’t cooking or listening to music, he was tending to his garden. He proudly grew his own peppers (amongst so much more) to make his famous hot sauce.
The last (almost) 6 years of his life was spent with his Wife, Nicole and their dog (Izzie)
Those years were full of traveling (even went out of the country for the first time, recently), eating at some of the best restaurants, shelling on the beach, watching sunsets, swimming with manatees (he thought it was like watching National Geographic on TV) watching rehabbed sea turtles being released into the Gulf of Mexico, fishing, laughing and loving each other.
He lived his life to the fullest and was always making someone laugh or smile.
