It is with grace and faith in the resurrection to eternal life that Evelyn Outlaw Elliott peacefully passed away at her home in Birmingham, Ala. on Monday, October 1, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 41 years old. Evelyn was born in Dothan, Alabama on January 3, 1977. She is a 1995 graduate of Ashford High School. She later graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and went on to work there at the Spain Rehabilitation Center. After surviving a brain tumor in her early 20s, Evelyn changed her career focus. She became an occupational therapist in order to serve patients facing similar struggles. She loved her work, her patients and her co-workers. Like her mother, Evelyn enjoyed digging in the dirt of her garden. She was an active member of Birmingham's First Presbyterian Church. Evelyn leaves behind her husband Jeff Elliott; and nephews, Dylan and Austin Lyall, whom she loved as her own sons. She is also survived by her mother Carolyn Outlaw; siblings Martin Lyall and Cynthia Cook; in-laws Dick and Cathy Elliott, and Debbie, Steve, Eli and Baylee Grace Taylor; and many loving friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Mildred and Roy Outlaw. Evelyn's life will be celebrated at a memorial service at First Presbyterian Church in Birmingham at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 13, 2018. It will be preceded by visitation at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to First Light Shelter (firstlightshelter.org) or the Spain Rehabilitation Center Patient Assistance Fund (205-934-4940).
