
Geneva Weir Wade passed away on February 7, 2023. She was born to Robert and Louvenia Weir on February 3, 1920, in Birmingham, AL. Geneva grew up on Graymont Avenue, graduated from Ensley High School in 1937 and attended UAB in the school’s earliest years. Following high school and during WWII, Geneva worked at Southern Natural Gas. After her husband returned from the war, she became a homemaker and devoted mother. Geneva later began a 25 year career in the Social Security Administration.
After retiring, Geneva delivered Meals on Wheels in the Vestavia community for 27 years. Her volunteer work included committees at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church, and the HOA Board at Brookwood Green Condominiums. She enjoyed planting seasonal flowers at her condo and traveling.
Geneva was a beautiful example of helping others, keeping a curious nature and staying strong against life’s challenges.
Geneva is predeceased by her parents, her brothers Eugene, Ernest (Buddy), Harold Weir, an infant sister, Charlotte, and her beloved first grandchild, Stephanie Hill. She is also predeceased by her former husband and father of her children, Bernard Wade.
Geneva is survived by her son, Richard Wade (Billie), Patti Smith (Jim) and Rebecca Fricke (Keith). She leaves behind her much loved grandchildren, Scott and Matt Wade, Natalie Elrod, Kelly Montgomery and Jamie Smith; and great-grandchildren,
Kassidy and Blake Hill, Connor Elrod, Luke Wade, Keith Montgomery, Tom Wade and Geneva Pearce; also several nieces and nephews.
A private family memorial service will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Older Adult Ministries at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church.
