
Hannah Riva Helman passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, September 7th. Hannah was born in Cape Town, South Africa on January 17th 1946 but had called Birmingham, Alabama home for the past 47 years.
Hannah was preceded in death her parents Pincus and Chaya Rosenthal, and by her brother Issy Rosenthal. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Colin Helman, her daughter Samantha Lichtman (Jeff),
her son Steven Helman, her grandchildren, Jake, Evan, and Zach Lichtman and Adam Helman, and her sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews.
The funeral will take place on Sunday, September 10th, at 1:00 pm at Elmwood Cemetery (800 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive) with shiva to immediately follow at Temple Beth El until 5:00 pm. Shiva will be held at the home each night Monday through Thursday from 5-8 pm as well as Wednesday from 1-3 pm.
Donations in Hannah's memory may be made to Temple Beth El or to Collat Jewish Family Services.
Hannah was truly loved by all who knew her. She always had a smile on her face and an outstretched hand to help others. May Hannah rest in peace and may her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.
