Age 95, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2013. He was born on January 29, 1918 in New York City. He went to City College of New York and earned his Masters of Social Work degree at the University of Pennsylvania. His career as a social worker included positions in Jewish federation and family service organizations in Wilmington, Delaware, Buffalo, New York and Boston, Massachusetts. He relocated to Birmingham upon his retirement in 1992, and volunteered at the United Way of Central Alabama for several years. He is preceded in death by his two brothers, Louis (Elaine) and Meyer (Pearl) and by his wife Pearl. He is survived by his daughters Janet Bronstein and Judie Bronstein (Goggy Davidowitz), and by his grandchildren Karen and Hannah Klinger and Ilan Davidowitz. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 31 at 2:30 PM at Johns-Ridout’s Funeral Parlors, Southside, with burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Joseph's memory to United Way of Central Alabama or Collat Jewish Family Services.
