Mabel G. "Chickie" Fleming

She was born June 20, 1921 at Kelly’s Ford, Virginia to Clifford D. Green and Frances Green. She attended Warrenton Virginia High School where she was valedictorian of The Class of 1938. She graduated from Madison College, Harrisonburg, Virginia in 1943. (Now James Madison University)

She and William C. Fleming were married on March 19, 1944.

Their children are Martha F. Williams (deceased); Sharon A. South of Homewood, Alabama; and Joan F. Manning of Columbiana, Alabama.

Grandchildren are Dalynn Anderson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Maria Stratton of Weslaco, Texas; Jon Kelly South of Mountain Brook, Alabama; William Cary South of Homewood, Alabama; Hillary Belden Chance of Prattville, Alabama; and Eva Norton of Goomburra, Queensland, Australia.

Sisters are Ruby Elsea of Roanoke, Virginia; Pearl Hoffman of Roanoke, Virginia; Alta Parker of Arlington, Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews in Virginia.

Great Grandchildren are Jon William Van Wezel and Lauren Fleming Van Wezel; Nikki Anderson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Jack McCard Norton of Goomburra, Queensland, Australia. She was preceded in death by her brother, Douglas Green.

She and her family have lived in Mountain Brook, Alabama since 1964. She has been a member of the Poinsettia Women’s Committee for many years. She and her husband were members of the Vestavia Country Club and the Shoal Creek Club for many years.

She is to be cremated with ashes to the Fleming family plot at Lebanon Christian Church in Newport News, Virginia.
