EGELAND, SAIDIE CATHERINE BOOHAKER Saidie Catherine Boohaker Egeland-On January 1, 2013, was cradled by her patron, the Blessed Mother, and presented to our Savior as a good and faithful hand-maiden. Saidie was a caring daughter, generous sister, devoted wife, adoring mother, loving khalto (aunt), and compassionate friend who has returned to God after a short 56 years. She was a Certified Public Accountant, who most recently worked as the Controller for the Birmingham YMCAs. Saidie graduated from John Carroll Catholic High School. She earned her accounting degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she served as the charter president for the accounting honorary fraternity, Beta Alpha Psi, and as a Student Government Association Representative. She was a life-long member of Saint Elias Maronite Catholic Church and volunteered for the annual Lebanese Food & Cultural Festival. She instilled her faith and love of the Church deeply into her husband and daughters. Saidie's passion for life was immeasurable. Her faith, family, and friends were the center of her life. She made everyone she met smile, and she continues to make her loved ones smile. Her siblings' friends became her friends, and her daughters' friends called her "Mama Egg." She will be greatly missed, but will be remembered forever because of her smile, laugh, and charisma. Her mourning, yet grateful survivors, include: her parents, Joseph Albert and Paulette Moutran Boohaker; her husband, Rodger David Egeland; her daughters, Catherine Anne and Rebecca Marie Egeland; her sister, Dr. Emily Anne Boohaker Issa (Richard) and their children, Christopher, Matthew, and Mariana; her brother, Maron Joseph Boohaker, all in Birmingham; and her brother, Leo Joseph Boohaker in Colorado. Visitation will be Sunday, January 6, from 5-7 PM, with incense service following, at Saint Elias (836 8th Street South, Birmingham 35205). The funeral liturgy will be Monday, January 7, at 10 AM followed by interment at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations can be made to the Saint Elias Maronite Church Building Fund or the Alabama Ear Institute. May her soul and all of the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
