

On August 2, 2023 at the age of 87, Thurman Mathis Crawford of Pinson, AL, 5th child of Esker and Dessie Crawford of Jasper, AL, joined his mother and father, Thelman, Maudine, Edgar, and Bud in the next life. Thurman is survived by his wife Judy Grace Crawford; his children and their spouses: Gary and Melissa Crawford, Denise and Jim Waldrop, and Scott and Kathy Crawford; his grandchildren: Crystal and Daniel Chappell, Robert and Sydney Crawford, Steven and Drayton Crawford, Kenneth and Megan Waldrop, Abigail Waldrop, David Crawford, and Candace and John David Stewart; and his great-grandchildren: Ian, Noah, Owen, Cameron, Mila, and Sloan.
Thurman became a Christian in 1963 at the teaching of Bob and Lois Reminder of Bay City, MI, and since that time has actively engaged in church activities including being a teacher, song leader, deacon, and elder. Thurman and Judy also traveled to Belize, CA several times to help with the mission trips in that country forming several lasting friendships. Many will also remember Thurman as he used his talent to help plan and cook for church fellowships. Throughout his life Thurman worked for several grocery stores, including Western Supermarkets, and although his training was as a Butcher, his real talent shown as a salesman, buyer, and manager for the stores. Many will also remember that Thurman put his love of sales to great use selling fireworks for Crazy Bill’s where it was less about selling fireworks and more about interacting with everyone that came into the stand – both young and old.
As per his wishes, arrangements for a memorial service will be forthcoming. The family thanks all those that have expressed their comfort and offered their prayers at this time.
