

Visitation will be Thursday from 5-9 pm. Funeral services will be conducted by the Zarro Funeral Home (www.zarrofuneralhome.net) 145 Harrison St., Bloomfield on Friday at 9:15 am followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 am at St. Lucy’s Church, Newark. The burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers, donations will be appreciated in his memory to American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite300, Rockville, MD 20852.
He was born and raised in Newark, lived in Bloomfield for 45 years before moving to Belleville 5 years ago. He was a Guard of Honor and a Rosarian and a member of the St. Gerard Society of St. Lucy’s Church, Newark. He was the owner/ operator of Panico’s Market in Newark and co founder of Panico’s Restaurant.
Gene is survived by his loving and devoted children, Frank Panico and his wife, Donna; Lisa Panico, Gina Galasso and her husband Anthony: dear brother of, Anna Freda; cherished grandfather of Jill Ann Filipone and her husband, Michael, Nicole Panico and Anthony Moscaritola; dear sister- in-law, Lucille Genova; special uncle to Frankie Boy and Lucretia and also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Jeanne (nee Zarro) Panico, parents, Geraldine (nee Ciccone) and Frank Panico; brothers, Jerry and Frank “Butchie” Panico.
