Mrs. Wells was born in Cookeville, TN on January 18, 1924 and peacefully passed away from complications of Alzheimer's
Disease on December 12, 2012 in Riverside, CA.
Evelyn was the oldest of the 10 children of Everett and Leora Gentry. The family migrated to Phoenix, Arizona prior to World
War II. In November of 1940, Evelyn gave birth to her first child, a daughter named Donna. During the war years Evelyn worked
Luke Field in Arizona. On May 31, 1946, she married Mr. Marion N. Wells of South Gate, California. in 1947 the bought a home
South Gate. Mrs. Wells gave birth to her second child, a son named Michael in October of 1949. In January of 1953, she gave
birth to a second son, Steven.
In 1962-1963 Evelyn served a term as President of the Stanford Avenue
Elementary School PTA. When her oldest son Michael joined the US Air Force
in December, 1968 Evelyn became involved with a local chapter of the Air
Force Mother's club. Also during this period she was involved with the
POW/MIA bracelet program. She also received her license as a beautician.
She worked in this vocation for 25 years.
In 1979 her husband retired from his job as a machinist and they moved from
South Gate, California back to Cookeville, Tennessee to be nearer to members
of her family. During this time Evelyn still kept busy with arts and crafts and
began to make ceramic dolls and clothes for the dolls. In 1983 she and
her husband moved back to California settling in Rialto. During this time she
continued her arts & crafts and doll collecting. Evelyn was very proud of the
collection of 150 or more dolls on display in her home. She also started to
volunteer at the local senior citizen center and at Loma Linda Hospital.
She is survived by her sons Michael and Steven, daughter-in-law Anita,
grandsons Bryan and Danny, brothers Ralph and Doug, sisters Joyce, Marilyn,
Linda and many nieces & nephews. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband
Marion, daughter Donna, brothers Kenneth and Harold, sisters
Margaret, Lila and her beloved poodles Pierre and Buttons.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 19th, 2012 from 10:00AM thru
1:45PM followed by a graveside memorial service at 2:00PM at Green Acres
Memorial Park, 11715 Cedar Ave., Bloomington, CA 92316.
