Twig passed away after many challenging battles with different illnesses. He met each admirably, with uncommon courage, determination and optimism.
Living in the Bloomington area since 1949, he joined the U.S. Army in 1953 and while visiting family in a small Iowa town met Phyllis Smith. They were married in 1956, a union that lasted forty-five years up to the time of her demise. Howard worked 33 years at Kaiser Steel and ten at California Steel as a Maintenance Supervisor. Additionally, he worked for the San Bernardino School District. He was involved with the Bloomington Boosters Club.
A few of his favorite activities as part of the Boosters were participating in Christmas parades and driving trams at the California Speedway. He was active in the Cub and Boy Scouts, serving as Scoutmaster in each group, then later volunteered to assist with the Bloomington Swim Club.
After battles with three different types of cancer which he won, he attended Kaiser Hospital's "Pulmonary Pals" where he encouraged and inspired other members. Howard also participated in the Relay for Life where he was asked to give a speech at the upcoming 2016 event. His humor and kindness will be sorely and genuinely missed.
Preceded in death by Phyllis in 2001, survivors include one daughter, Renee Atchley (Bob), one son Hal H. Jordan, two grandchildren, Ryan Atchley and Rebecca Foster (Jon) and special friend Shirley Cheney.
Services will be held at Green Acres Mortuary; 11715 Cedar Ave. Bloomington, CA on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at 10am.
Howard made his wishes known that, instead of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Association-located at 6355 Riverside Ave. Riverside, CA 92506.
