April 6, 1964 – February 22, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Maria Isabel Perez, lovingly known as Chavela, on February 22, 2025, at the age of 60. She passed peacefully at Kaiser Hospital in Fontana, CA, surrounded by the love of her family.
Maria was born on April 6, 1964, in Los Angeles, CA, to her parents, Maria and Julian Pinto, who have since passed. She grew up alongside her siblings, Emma Apodaca (who preceded her in death), Mercedes Rosales, and Julian Pinto, whom she loved dearly.
Maria was a dedicated member of Truth Tabernacle for over 40 years, where she faithfully served the Lord and cherished her church family. She found great joy in serving her church, especially by cooking for the preachers. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she lived as an example of kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to God.
Maria built a life centered around love, family, and strength. She was a devoted mother to Rosemary Perez and Phillip Perez Jr., pouring her heart into raising them with unconditional love. Becoming a grandmother to Joseph and Elias Perez was one of her greatest joys, and she cherished every moment with them. She was also a caring aunt, always ready to spoil her nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her husband, Phillip Perez; her children, Rose Perez and Phillip Perez Jr., along with her daughter-in-law, Desirey Perez; and her grandchildren, Joseph and Elias Perez, along with her soon-to-arrive granddaughter, Sarey Isabel Perez. She also leaves behind her siblings, Mercedes Rosales and Julian Pinto; her brother-in-law, Manuel Rosales; and her sister-in-law, Candy Pinto.
Additionally, she is survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Though she is no longer with us, her love, kindness, and faith will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
Maria had a gift for making others feel special, always putting family and friends before herself. She was the heart of every gathering, ensuring everyone was well-fed, laughing, and loved. She especially showed her love through celebrations, going above and beyond to make birthdays unforgettable. Whether it was a homemade feast, a beautifully decorated cake, or a thoughtful surprise, she made sure every special day was filled with joy and love.
Maria was an extraordinary cook, turning every meal into something truly special. Her dishes weren’t just food—they were some of the best you’d ever taste, made with love and a gift that only she had. Cooking was her way of bringing people together, making every gathering a feast to remember.
Beyond the kitchen, Maria was full of life, always bringing humor and joy to those around her. She had a natural gift for making people laugh, whether through her quick wit, playful personality, or one of her many pranks. She loved pulling jokes on family and friends, keeping everyone on their toes with her mischievous spirit. With a Diet Pepsi in one hand, a child on her hip, and a mischievous grin, she was always ready to spread laughter and fun. Her childlike energy, boundless love, and infectious humor made every occasion special, leaving an unforgettable mark on everyone she knew.
Her legacy of kindness, generosity, and joy will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten. We find comfort knowing she is in the presence of the Lord, watching over us.
“And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:4
