It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of René Antonio Hernandez, age 94, of Yucaipa, California, who passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025. René was born on December 16, 1930, in San Salvador, El Salvador, to Nicanor Hernandez and Elisa Flores.
Before marrying Rosa Melida Hernandez on November 13, 1964, René was previously widowed. Though the loss of his first spouse was a profound chapter in his life, René’s strength, resilience, and faith carried him forward. His marriage to Rosa brought him immense joy, and together they built a loving home filled with faith, laughter, and devotion.
René worked as a skilled tailor for over 40 years, but his true passion was as a minister in the Church of Christ. He dedicated over 50 years to his ministry, starting in El Salvador, and was a beloved servant to his community. His favorite Bible verse was Romans 8:28: "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."
René enjoyed the simple pleasures in life: reading, listening to music—especially boleros—and playing the harmonica. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family, creating memories and sharing moments of joy. He was known for his love of pan dulce con café, chicharrones, and shrimp, which he shared lovingly with his family.
René is survived by his three children, Ana, Marta, and Julio; his five grandchildren, Eneyda, Rudy, Eva, Adriana, and Jonathan; and his six great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Olivia, Christian, Zachary, Emma, and Jesse. He is also deeply missed by his loving wife, Rosa, who stood by his side throughout their years together.
A celebration of René’s life will be held at a later date. The family kindly asks for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
May René rest in peace, knowing that his legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to inspire all who knew him.
