As a young girl, Sis and family moved from Louisiana to Texas. She learned how to live and work on the farm, helping with the younger siblings, and getting jobs cleaning homes as she got older and babysitting. During the depression when she was 10 yrs. old she described how times were hard, but they were blessed because they knew how to live off the land, making everything they needed to survive.
Sis married Wilfred Melonson on June 9, 1943 along with two other best friend couples while the men were in the Army. Sis and Wilfred’s family consisted of baby Leonard, Herman Joseph, Nolan, LaVerne and Aaron.
In 1963 Mother convinced Daddy to move to California to have a better life and get away from those scary tornadoes, etc. Leaving Raywood was hard on the family relocating to San Francisco then Fontana then Riverside moving several times for a few years finally finding Riverside and wonderful lifelong friends the Greenhouses.
Over the years Sis and Wilfred enjoyed visiting home/Texas, and growing a garden every year at Emerson Elementary School and in the back yard, also making homemade sausage in the back yard. They brought Texas to Boyd Ct. They LOVED fishing (mother never learned to swim). Sis and Wilfred joined a fishing and hunting club that led to Wilfred buying a small boat and trailer. For many years they were able to enjoy each other’s company, travel and have good times.
She could get down on that good ole creole food. She loved to dance; she and Daddy enjoyed going to Zydeco's and having family gatherings.
