Barbara Jean Holmes

She was born April 2, 1932 in Macomb to Harold Norman and Leona Dorothy (Hall) Woll. She married Stephen Eugene Holmes on June 20, 1954.

Barbara graduated from Western Illinois University with her Bachelors in Math. She ran the daycare business “Happy Holmes” and retired in 2008. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Normal where she had served as a deaconess was an AWANA Leader and was an interpreter for the deaf ministry. She enjoyed playing games at Evergreen Place where she was also a part of the hand bell choir. Barbara was loved by all who knew her and will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her sons: John (Sue) Holmes of Normal, Donald (Susan) Holmes of Ensenada, Mexico and Ronald (Jane) Holmes of Keizer, Oregon; grandchildren: Karen (Nick) Dewherst, Kathy (Ebony) Freeman, Miranda (Nelson) Gonzalez, Jeremy (Sunshine) Benson, and Jonathan (Sabrina) Holmes; several great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter: Bonnie Benson and one grandson.

Funeral Service will be at 11am Tuesday July 1, 2014 at Calvary Baptist Church, 1017 N School St, Normal, IL 61761.Visitation will be 1 hour prior. Interment will be at East Lawn Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Ralph Wingate and her son Rev. Donald Holmes will officiate.
