Born February 7, 1951 in Christopher to Ernest “Cotton” and Edna (Sylvester) Spann; she married William A. Newell on August 18, 1978 in Lexington. He survives of Christopher.
Also surviving are her children, Dawn Shoppell (Brian Wilson) of Christopher, Benjamin Short of Lexington, Jason Newell of Moulton, Alabama and Molly Roake (Brian Damon) of Lexington; nine grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers, Terry Spann and infant Dennis Spann.
Deborah worked as a nuisance call specialist at GTE in Bloomington, Illinois for 30 years. After retiring, she then worked at State Farm for seventeen years in the convention and travel department.
She will be remembered for the love she gave her family and was known to have never met a stranger. Deborah brightened every room she entered with her happy and bubbly personality.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, February 6, 2025 at East Lawn Funeral Home in Bloomington with visitation prior to the service beginning at 12:30 PM. Entombment will follow at East Lawn Memorial Gardens.
