

She was born January 5, 1926 in South Bend, IN to John and Anna Fuchs. She married Harold Couillard on August 22, 1948 in South Bend.
Emma is survived by her three children: Jeanette (Larry) Bartels, John (Jan) Couillard, and Paul (Andrea) Couillard, grandchildren Katy (Jason) Klokkenga, Colleen (Rudi) Rowsey, Jason (Keri) Couillard, Dan (Maren) Couillard, Seth (Megan Sargent) Couillard, Justin (Abbey) Lightbody, John Lightbody, Michael (Jessica) Couillard, James (Talesha) Couillard , Christopher Couillard, Joseph Couillard, fourteen great grandchildren, sister Herta Johnston, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Harold, parents, brother Robert Fuchs, and two infant siblings.
Emma graduated from Riley high school then began employment at Robertson’s department store in South Bend. She later worked at Valparaiso University while Harold was in law school. As the family grew, she became a full-time domestic engineer.
Emma and Harold enjoyed fifty-two years of marriage as the family moved around the Midwest with Harold’s State Farm career. They enjoyed travels in retirement and settled in South Carolina for golf, friendships and warmer weather. After Harold died, Emma returned to Bloomington to be closer to family. She rejoined Christ Lutheran and was very active there.
Emma and Harold’ remains will be inurned together at East Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Services will be held 11:00 AM February 21, 2025 at Christ Lutheran Church in Normal, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran or to Westminster Village.
