

She was born January 11, 1919 in Normal, daughter of William Earl and Edna M. Burke Percy. She married Clifford Heagler in September of 1945, and he preceded her in death in 1969. She then married Francis Killian in August of 1972, and he also preceded her in death in 1990, as well as her parents and one brother, John B. Percy.
Surviving are one niece, Pat (Dono) Leli of Florida; one nephew, Bill Percy of Bloomington and her cousin, Byron (Cherol) Lott of Rincon, GA. Also surviving are two step-daughters, Alice (Dave) Wells of Phoenix, AZ and Carolyn (Bob) Ofenloch of Rocklin, CA.
Helen was an active lifelong member of the DAR, annually attending the DAR Continental Congress held in Washington DC, until her declining health interfered. She held several offices at the Letitia Green Stevenson Chapter of the DAR including Chapter Regent from 1968-1970, where she was also elected Honorary Chapter Regent. At the State level she was Vice Regent from 1970-1972 and Librarian from 1966-1968. At the National level she served on many committees. She was involved with several of the community interests of the DAR including the Tamassee School, a private non-profit children’s home and family service organization offering multi-faceted programs to serve children and families in crisis, and she assisted with scholarships and awards for student applicants.
She was also a member of the Elks Lodge in Bloomington and a lifetime member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Bloomington.
Helen was a lifelong farmer in the area East of Merna. She also worked for many years at Biasi’s Drug Store and Jack Lewis’ Fine Jewelry, both in Bloomington.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at East Lawn Funeral Home in Bloomington, with the Rev. Keith Ferguson officiating. Interment will be at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Bloomington, immediately following the service.
