Mattie was born Sept. 1, 1928, in Lumpkin, Ga., the daughter of Samuel and Mary Green Johnson. She married Ruben Thomas on July 6, 1987, in Chicago. He survives.
Also surviving are their children, Cathrine (Richard) Thomas, Plainfield; Cynthia (Larry) Jones, Bolingbrook; Vanessa Florez, Chicago; Angela (Ronald) Wilder, Addison; and Elvin (Patti) Florez, Bloomington; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a brother, Clyde Johnson, Chicago.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters; and her children, Raymond, Eugene, Mary and Elaine.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice.
