He was born June 8, 1921 in Lomax, IL to William and Eva Porter. He married Shirley Donaldson Aug. 15, 1954. She passed away Jan. 9, 2013 in Normal. He was also preceded in death by two grandsons: Jesse and Shane Porter and two brothers: Floyd and Calvin Porter.
Survivors include five children: David (Chris) Porter of Byron, Diane Porter of Bloomington, Douglas (Sandra) Porter of Towanda, Debbie Schultz of Bloomington, Max (Stephanie) Porter, Jr of Gridley, twelve grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was a Navy WWII Veteran.
Max was a Truck Driver for Illinois Power for 35 years retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Towanda American Legion Post 42 and the First Baptist Church in Towanda.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be Wednesday May 14, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Towanda. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services.
Burial will be in East Twin Grove Cemetery in Bloomington at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Towanda.
