

Roy W. Holschen, 83, of Hudson, IL, formerly of Lexington, IL, passed away at 9:58 a.m. on Monday, March 21, 2011 at OSF Saint Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington, IL.
He was born August 20, 1927 in St. Louis, MO, son of August and Golda Swank Holschen. He graduated from Gunlach School, Blewett High School and Hadley Technical School all in St. Louis, MO. He married Eileen O’Neil on October 30, 1948.
Surviving are his wife; children, Jerry (Patti) Holschen of St. Louis, MO, Diane (Pat) Shaw of Madison, WI, David (Carla) Holschen of St. Louis, MO, Sharon (Philip) Morris of Hudson, IL and Kathi (Pat) O’Grady of Hudson, IL. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Roy entered the US Navy in November of 1944 and served on the USS Navasota AO-106 for over two years as the ship’s baker, before being discharged on October of 1947. After returning to St. Louis, he held a variety of jobs, including Metropolitan Life Insurance, Maryland Casualty Company and Service Fire Insurance Company before joining State Farm Insurance in 1959. He retired in 1990 from State Farm’s Corporate Office in Bloomington, with over 31 years of service.
He was a volunteer for the Illinois Department of Insurance; a member of the Lexington Library Board and an election judge. He was a member of the Gremlins Athletic Association, Lion’s Club and the Lexington American Legion.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 1, 2011 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lexington, IL. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday at East Lawn Funeral Home in Bloomington, IL with a prayer service at 5:45 p.m. Entombment will be at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Bloomington, IL.
