

Virginia was born October 24, 1924, in Ottumwa, IA, the daughter of Ralph T. and Florence K. Emery. Virginia married Edwin H. Davenport on May 8, 1946. He preceded her in death on October 13, 1992. Her parents and one brother Richard T. Emery preceded her in death.
Surviving are one son Philip (Dana) Davenport of Des Moines, IA; two daughters, Susan (Gary) Eggena of Normal, IL; and Connie (Steve) Broquard of East Peoria, IL; two grandsons, Daniel Eggena and Ben Broquard; three granddaughters, Jamie Davenport (Ameer El’ Alaily), Leslie (Brian) Grefe, and Allison Eggena; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Virginia graduated from Ottumwa High School. As a young woman she worked as a telephone operator and office support in a number of businesses. She retired as a secretary at the Bureau, Macon, Putnam Special Education Cooperative Princeton, IL.
After retirement she moved to Bloomington to be near her family. She lived in Bloomington for twenty years. Most recently she was a resident of Westminster Village. She was a loving; patient mother and grandmother who loved to spend time with her family. Virginia enjoyed travel, reading, gardening, and many activities and the companionship of her friends.
She was a member of the Wesley Methodist Church, Methodist Women’s Club, and Senior Singles. Virginia volunteered at OSF, Bromenn Hospitals and Mclean Co. Historical Society.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at East Lawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place after the service at East Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Wesley Methodist Church in Bloomington, Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community in Chenoa, or the Advocate Hospice Facility.
