

Anna B was born on May 22, 1920, the fifth child of Oliver Seth Tatum and Bessie(Updegraft)Tatum. She was raised in Clear Creek, Indiana and graduated from Smithville High School.
In 1940 she married Charles Otis Kauffman of Bloomington. Together they had one son Charles O. Kauffman, Jr.
After losing her husband in 1997, Anna B developed a wonderful relationship with Don Scherer. They enjoyed each other’s companionship until Don’s death in 2004.
Anna B worked for JC Penney Company in Bloomington after high school. In the middle to late 40’s she was employed as a trainer by RCA. Late in her life, the 1970’s-90’s, she worked for Mitchell Framing Studio. She won an award for her creative framing of works of art while working there.
Always there for family and friends in need, Anna B was well loved by many. Her cheerful disposition, funny stories and ability to laugh at herself were truly endearing qualities. She never met a stranger and loved talking with new acquaintances.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Bloomington, the local chapter of the DAR and a bridge player. She loved to play card games, collect antiques and paintings and visit casinos.
Anna B is survived by her son Charles O. Kauffman, Jr. of Bloomington, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and the Scherer family who welcomed her into their lives and adopted her as one of their own.
She is preceded in death by her husband Charlie Kauffman, her partner Don Scherer, her parents Oliver and Bessie Tatum, her siblings, Thema, Leslie(Rip), John and Wendell Tatum.
Anna B lived a blessed life that she thoroughly enjoyed. She will be fondly remembered by all of her family and friends still on this earth. We wish her well on her journey home to a better place and one day we plan to see her again.
Deremiah-Frye Mortuary in charge of arrangements for a private family graveside service at Fairview Cemetery in Orleans, Indiana. A memorial celebration of Anna B’s life is being planned for a later date this spring.
