

Charles D. McGinnis age 99, died peacefully in Bell Trace Senior Living Community on October 23, 2017. Charles was born in Bloomington on June 7, 1918 to the late Trent and Mae(Sims)McGinnis. At age 11 his family moved to 2900 W. 3rd St. which became McGinnis Farms.
Charles enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1942. He was sent to Miami, Florida for active duty in 1943 and commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in March of 1944. He went to Italy with the 15th Air Force 461st group and flew 15 missions. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
Upon his return from the service, he met and married Lois Beauchamp in Indianapolis on January 3, 1948. She preceded him in death in 2005.
Charles came back to the farm in Bloomington until highway 37 became 4 lanes, taking the family plant business with it. Charles then worked for the US postal service for 23 years.
Charles is survived by his three children: Sandra M.(husband Dan)Brown, Cynthia S.(husband John)Taylor and Michael(wife Marilyn)McGinnis, three grandchildren, three great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister Kathleen Ketcham.
Friends may call on Thursday, October 26, 2017 from 10 a.m. until time of service at 12:30 p.m. in Deremiah-Frye Mortuary Greene & Harrell Chapel, 700 W. Gourley Pike, Bloomington, Indiana 47404. Burial with military honors will be performed by the Monroe County Honor Guard in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
