Norma Jean Workman passed away at Stonecroft Health Campus on Sunday, November 27th, 2022. She was born in Lawrence County, Indiana on July 14th, 1934 to Quincy Watson and Francis Deckard Watson. On February 5th, 1955, she married Cecil E. Myers. After her first husband’s passing, she remarried on July 16th, 1994 to William Workman.
Norma is survived by her children, R. Joe (Caroline) Myers and Ronald E. Myers; grandchildren, Quinton A. (Rebecca Wedon) Myers, Amanda (Jose) Velasco, Tim (Maribel) Myers, Nick Workman, and Megan Alapati; and great grandchildren, Grayson Gibson and Corina Myers.
She is preceded in death by her father, Quincy Watson; mother, Francis Deckard Watson; step-mother, Cloe Hillenburg; first husband, Cecil E. Myers; second husband, William Workman; stepson, William A. Workman; and daughter-in-law, Suzanne Myers.
Norma was the last of five sisters, all who have passed; Mary (Carl Hazel), Vernetta (Martin Chambers), Ilene (George Wilson), and Ruby (William Workman).
Norma had retired from Thomson Consumer Electronics (RCA) after several decades of service. She was a longtime volunteer for Bloomington Hospital; she was known as the “walker bag lady” because she made 365 walker bags a year for the hospital to give to patients. In all, she made several thousand walker bags and enclosed a card from her church, Stoneybrook Community Church of God, of which she was a founding member. There are still bags being given away by IU health, but the church’s card has been replaced by an IU Health card.
She was a 65 year member of the Church of God. She was an active member of the Women of the Church of God for over 50 years as well. Norma was active and still attending church just up until a few weeks before her passing. The church was always an important part of her life.
Norma was loved by all her friends in Highland Village, the residents at Gentry Park, and the walking group at Twin Lakes.
Visitation will be held at Deremiah-Frye Mortuary (700 W. Gourley Pike, Bloomington, IN, 47404) on Wednesday, November 30th, 2022 from 4pm-7pm.
