

Robert W. Johns, 92 passed away peacefully at Hearthstone Health Campus on Thursday, January 1, 2015. Robert was born in Bloomington, IN, to the late Earl and Docia (DeFord) Johns on September 28, 1922. He married his high school sweetheart Jean McArtor on September 19, 1942. He was retired from Crane Naval Ammunition Depot where he worked for 31 years. He also worked for Purolator.
Robert was a World War II veteran where he served under Gen. George W. Patton during the Battle of the Bulge. He received 5 Bronze stars during the European campaign where he landed on Utah Beach on June 16, 1944, A Co., with the 607th Tank Destroyer Battalion.
He was a member of The American Legion #18. He joined Sherwood Oaks Christian Church in 1994.
Robert is survived by his loving wife Jean of 72 years: one son, Steve Johns and girlfriend Janet Curry, one daughter, Shannon (Dan) Wagoner all of Bloomington. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Jamie (Kenny) Willis of Springville, IN, Erika (Darrick) Willoughby of Bedford, IN, Aaron (Karlie) Johns and Andy (Nikki) Johns of Baytown, TX, Carisa Whittak of Short Hills, NJ and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack Johns and sister, Helen Brown.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Deremiah-Frye Mortuary Greene & Harrell Chapel, with Tom Ellsworth officiating. Burial will follow at Garrison Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, Jan. 5, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Deremiah-Frye Mortuary Greene & Harrell Chapel, 700 W. Gourley Pike in Bloomington and from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday prior to the funeral service.
