Survivors include three sons, Ron (Sissie) Cox of Florida, Terry Cox (companion Karen Scales of Gosport and Dennis (Cindy) Cox of Pierceton, IN; two daughters, Rhonda (Bill) Dennis of Utah and Teresa (Lou) Kolinek of Bloomington; ten grandchildren, Lisa, Derek, Angie, Paul, Tiersa, Mireille, Keeli Ann, Everett Ray, Mary and Zach; 9 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Lyon and Rosetta(Bill) McKee both of Bloomington and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, WWII Veteran Milton Ray Cox, Jr.; a son, David Cox; three grandsons, Josh, Robert and Justin; two great grandsons, Anthony and Jacob; and her beloved dog, Patches.
Virginia had been a cook for many years at University High School, the Exchange Home and at Bloomington Hospital. She was a member of Sherwood Oaks Christian Church and had been a longtime member of Fairview United Methodist Church. Other memberships included TOPS, Sweet Adelines, the Red Hat Society and Phi Beta Psi Sorority.
Virginia was very artistic and played harmonica, violin and clarinet; she was proud to have been one of the first women to have played in the Indiana University Marching Hundred band. As a child, she placed second in the I.U. Champion Marble competition. She loved gardening and the beautiful songbirds that came to visit. She always had the prettiest yard on the street.
An informal Celebration of Life will be held from 3:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 14, in the Fireside Room at Sherwood Oaks Christian Church, 2700 S. Rogers Road; Bloomington. Please feel welcome to come and pay tribute to this special lady as we share our favorite stories and memories from her time with us here on earth.
