Eleanor P. McDonald of Boca Raton FL, passed peacefully on October 21st 2016 at 98 years young. She is pre-deceased by her husband John A. McDonald, her sister Thelma Painter, her nephew Jesuit Father Emmett (E.B.) Painter, as well as her husband’s nine brothers and sisters and their spouses. She is survived by her niece, Sharon Painter of Topeka, Kansas and her sister-in-law, Mary Louise McDonald, of Binghamton, N.Y.
Eleanor was also a wonderful aunt to her many McDonald nieces & nephews. But first and foremost, she was a devoted wife to John. Married in 1941 on the eve of World War II, John was a decorated Air Force pilot during the War. He then had a distinguished lifelong career with IBM. Supporting his career, Eleanor enthusiastically lived in Paris as well as many East Coast cities. They settled in Boca Raton in 1968 and were longtime members of the Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club and St Jude’s Catholic Church. John and Eleanor were married for 55 years; they traveled extensively and were always in the company of their beloved Cocker Spaniels, affectionately known as “Eleanor's 'girls”. An avid Bridge player, golfer and embroider, Eleanor was a woman of great charm, dignity and always the consummate hostess. Her passing leaves a tremendous void in the lives of her family and friends. She will be missed.
